Why do train fares keep rising....?

Even amongst all of the swine flu hype and banking crises, every once in a while, there emerges a news story that truly divides the nation. Ronny Biggs impending prison release is one of them.

This being me, i will of course never sit on the fence, i do however have one question mulling around my mind - still - we'll come to that later.

"The man should rot in prison!"....That's what anyone over the age of 50 will be saying.
"He's no harm to society and he should spend his last days in the comfort of his family"...that's what anybody who works for Amnesty international and are such extreme vegetarians they won't even drive through a town with "Ham" in the title...would say.

Me...i agree with the OAP's....not so much because i am cold hearted, but for one very simple and clear cut reason which revolves around the Law of the Land....something which "compassion" should have no affect on.

It quite simply concerns barristers....
Picture this scenario.........London Crown Court, 2:30Pm........Case of Mr Biggs Jr........Charged with robbing a bank, GBH, Aggrevated Assault and generally not being very nice.......Court is in session......."The Defendant, My Lord, wishes to express his deep regret"......Jury Verdict.......Guilty.......Life imprisonment. Now we already know that life means 15 years minimum, even without Jack Straw trimming off the last few months for "compassion". What are our barristers meant to pass now..."Life x2"???

Our barristers used to be judge, jury and executioner....they're now not even the Judge!...It is getting too easy to get out of prison with all of the "appeals" and "good behaviour" programs, without setting bad examples of notorious thugs being discharged freely because they have a cough!

Alright so Biggs may be dead soon but with him will die a little piece of respect that every potential murderer in the country has for the system.

In the US they get over this problem by passing multiple sentences. To any Brit the words..."500 Years minimum with 40 Life Sentences" seems ridiculous...yet what the Americans have been smart enough to realise is that the democrats have made it possible to get rid of 400 of those years and 39 life sentences, which still leaves the convict rotting in his cell....job done! Fair conviction + appeal and good behavior consideration and he STILL got what he deserved!

I would suggest taking a page out of the American book of punishment....not too much...just a small page...the one that says "Life means life".

Argh...there's that question again...can anyone tell me if Ronny Biggs will be taking the train home???
